Its all so surreal

At the start of 2014, we made a promise to each other tocreate the best songs we could, with the goal of recording our second albumlater that year.  After hours and hours of song writing, practice, arguing (Lol), and dreaming, we felt we had enough song ideas to step into Studio Litho on Memorial Day weekend 2014.  So far, it has been a nine month process and it feels great to almost be done….we are soooo close.  With only mastering left on the schedule, I’ve started to reflect on the whole process:  a whole process that has been so surreal. 

The minute I stepped into the studio that Saturday morning in May, I felt a high and energy I had never felt before: the feeling of truly being alive.  The feeling when your dreams and aspirations are actually becoming realty right before your eyes.  I remember recording together the first day, and as I looked across the studio at everyone,  a huge smile came across my face to the point of almost laughter.  I realized that this is what the previous 6 years of work were for.  That there is nothing in this world I would rather do than create music with my best friends, and by recording together in a renowned studio like Litho, all those times I wasn’t sure if being in this band was worth it became, well, worth it. 

We are way over budget and way over schedule, but it doesn’t matter now.  What matters to me are the moments I shared and the goal we have almost accomplished.  I am proud of every person in this band for taking our music to the next level.  To showing each other how we have matured and have worked on our craft over the years to create something that is truly Art.  There isn’t anything that feels better than being satisfied with something you have created and getting a chance to share with others.  It’s what the definition of Art is: the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
